In October member were able to enjoy the Women of the Year (WOTY) award presentation. The two amazing women honored have been given back to our community and for this selfless personal act is why FAB has given back to them so that they too are able to see how their community say's thank you. Please join FAB member congratulate Donna Sheehan and Jane Waters Thomas for being the recipients of the Women of the Year Award.
Donna Sheehan serves as the Assistant to the City Manager for the City Of Winter Haven. She is responsible for communicating and marketing the City's brand and message through the development of communication strategies emphasizing the unique aspects of the Winter Haven lifestyle. Her employment with the City has covered many additional responsibilities over a span of almost 30 years.
Donna is a graduate of the State University of New York College at Cortland, with a Bachelor of Science in Education. She is a graduate of the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce Leadership Winter Haven Class 24; a graduate of Leadership Polk Class 4 and is a Certified Public Manager through the Florida Center for Public Management at the Florida State University. In addition, she serves the Polk County Community as the Leadership Winter Haven Chair for Class 37, she is the Co-chair of the Polk Vision Government Taskforce, she is a committee member of the Leadership Polk Alumni Association, a Board Member and Secretary of Girls Inc. of Winter Haven; and she is a board member of Main Street Winter Haven, to name a few of her accomplishments.
Jane Waters Thomas is the Executive Director of Arts Ensemble Education Foundation and Doors2Change. Jane has spent a lifetime developing community education and outreach programs that lift and restore lives. She began her career in 1999 with the City of Winter Haven as the Facilities and Special Events Coordinator. She left this position to move into the fields of large-scale special events management, political campaign management, and community redevelopment programming. In 2006 she opened the Arts Ensemble Education Foundation and began a journey in business that would become fulltime ministry.
Certified in Early Childhood Development and Education, Jane later attended Rollins College in Orlando, where she became certified in Nonprofit Business Management. She combines these skills in the creation and implementation of new programs and ministry outreach efforts for the Arts Ensemble Education Foundation (AEEF), Doors 2 Change, and Boxing for Life. Today the work that she does in community restoration is her primary focus and with a team of dedicated ministry and education leaders she works in areas of Winter Haven, Bartow, and Lakeland to improve the lives of residents and community. She has received many awards throughout her career including the "She Knows Where She's Going" Award. She speaks regarding women's ministry and community outreach often and has many times been introduced as an activist on behalf of women and children in Polk County.
The Three Minute Spotlight was presented in October by Susan McPhail-Taylor, Owner of RN Patient Advocates of Central Florida. She is a patient advocate who works personally at coaching and supporting her clients journey through the healthcare system for their current medical needs and assistance.
